Tobias McGregor

Tobias McGregor’s journey into the world of oil painting began in his childhood, where his innate drawing talent turned into a creative endeavor that even earned him lunch money by sketching rich kids' cars. His early passion for art took a new turn when a family friend introduced him to oil paints at around age 14 or 15.

While he honed his skills with a summer program at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, he found traditional academic settings stifling, leading him to bypass college. Instead, Tobias explored other creative avenues including music—playing both piano and guitar—and woodcarving.

A period of hiatus from painting was followed by a return to his first love in his 50s. His artistic journey has been complemented by a diverse life experience, including serving four years in the Coast Guard and raising two sons as a single parent in Key West for three decades.

Now residing in Western North Carolina, Tobias McGregor continues to channel his life experiences and varied interests into his realistic oil paintings, blending a rich past with a vibrant present.
