Denise Seay - Waynesville, NC
True daughter of "The Textile State" (South Carolina's old nickname), Denise doesn't remember life without needle and thread.
From watching her mom sew and playing with those scraps to making Barbie doll clothes to her current work in wool applique and embroidery, textiles are part of her heritage. Her great-grandparents moved from western North Carolina to work in the South Carolina textile mills. Her grandmothers and great-aunt were meticulous and prolific quilters and tatters.
For her, fiber art combines three loves--working with fabric, rejuvenating old textiles and creating original works. Her creative process starts with a basic idea and a little structure, but it's all an experiment and she feels led through the process.
She's feels she's come home to western North Carolina. The beauty of our area is inspirational; she draws from it and seeks to provide joy in her works.
