“I am drawn to the feel of clay, the beauty of the form, and the subtle, often surprising variations in a glaze. Influenced by nature, the textures in general, these inspirations insinuate themselves into my work. Whether wheel-thrown, hand-built or altered, the pieces are designed with both visual pleasure and daily use in mind. I am enamored with the processes and possibilities that are inherent in working with clay.”
Before discovering ceramics, Crystal earned a degree in Graphics Art and Design. She has also taught calligraphy, dabbled in watercolors, and from her family farm, learned how to felt, dye, and spin natural fibers.
Most recently, Crystal completed the Professional Crafts: Clay Associates degree at Haywood Community College. Her pottery is primarily functional, with altered or hand-built additions. Her pieces are produced in her studio, one of her favorite places on earth!
