A native of Georgia, Jim Shackelford attended Georgia State University’s School of Business, and for thirty years worked in the field of truck leasing. Finally, he gave in to his artistic talent and the desire to spend paint and create.
His works in realism and impressionism employ bold, colorful strokes, often with impasto surfaces derived from painting with palette knives. Color is the keynote of his work, and he captures the scene behind the scene, or the emotion of the image. His work is not timid, but rather evokes a response from the viewer. He is comfortable painting with brush or knife on canvas or paper.
