Thomas Custom Rods has been in the business of restoring fine bamboo fly rods for private clients and for sale for over 30 years. Every year we donate many rods to local charities for fundraisers. I am the current fly rod-making instructor at Haywood Community College and fly-fishing instructor for Haywood County Recreation Department. I am the current President of the Cataloochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Past President of the National Capital Chapter of Trout Unlimited & Past Member of The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, NY. I am a member of the Haywood County Arts Council.
When we receive a bamboo rod, we hand-strip the existing finish and install high-gloss polyurethane on all bamboo surfaces. Rods are made of new and existing parts utilizing the existing grip and reel seat if possible. If not, we install new reel seats and grips. Ferrules are buffed and polished with jewelers-rouge to a bright shiny finish. All guide threads (or silks as they are called) are hand-tied and finished with special high gloss two-part epoxy. We build fine bamboo fly rods that are destined for your fishing pleasure. We will be more than happy to provide you with a quote to restore your personal heirloom family bamboo rod.
