My medium is fabric and thread. Rich colors, fine details, and visual depth are hallmarks of my work. From a distance, viewers often mistake my creations for a painting, but with close examination, they observe layers of fabric and intricate stitching. Every handcrafted bag and framed fiber piece is original in design and a one-of-a-kind keepsake.
Fabric is my canvas as I "paint" with thread. I guide the fabric under a moving needle. This technique of free motion quilting allows me to sew in any direction and "sketch" complex details onto the surface of the quilt. No patterns programmed stitches or pencil marks are applied-even cutting is done free-hand! Most of my bags and small "art quilts" are embellished with hand embroidery, beadwork, or paint.
The inspiration for my work lies in the natural world surrounding us...from the warmth of the sea to the changing mountain ranges outside my very first studio window.
My handcrafted bags have been described as cherished pieces of wearable art. Clients have reported that my fiber pieces are not only representational in nature but also found a special place in their homes!
It is my hope that you find a sense of peace within the study of my work.
