Carol Weeks

Though I come from a long line of artistic souls, the traditional paintbrush and I never truly meshed successfully. Thankfully, the camera became my “paintbrush” and allows me to create images that reflect the truth and beauty found in nature.

I shoot whatever catches my eye, and the autumn leaves of Western North Carolina have been catching my eye for more than twenty years. Maple leaves are one of my favorites, not only because of their beautiful shape, but also for the variety of color they unveil. Myriad shades and combinations of yellow, orange and red offer a never-ending supply of “paint” for my images. Evergreen trees and autumn’s blue skies add color to the palette as I shoot reflections on nearby rivers.

To capture nature’s spectacular color palette, I use Fujichrome Velvia (50 ASA) slide film. I print my own images with an Epson printer, using archival quality inks and papers. All colors and lighting are natural – no computer enhancement is used. The images you see are exactly as I saw them through my lens.
